KENORA, Ontario - Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament for Kenora, visited with students and staff from St. Thomas Aquinas today. He was pleased to announce on behalf of Minister Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, funding of $2,000 for improvements to local urban trails. This funding comes through the Society for Educational Visits and Exchanges in Canada (SEVEC) which operates with the participation of the federal government through Canadian Heritage.
This funding has gone toward the purchase of tools including a brush saw and safety equipment. Outdoor Education and Environmental Science students both this year and in years to come will assist in improving and maintaining the nearby Rabbit Lake Trail System.
Kenora is blessed with beautiful terrain and we have recreational trails that are available to the public for a wide variety of activities from healthy living and physical fitness to recreational pursuits. These trails offer access to some of the remote and beautiful scenery this community has to offer.|
“I am proud that investments the Federal Government is making in the Kenora region are being awarded to groups of youth as well as municipalities, not-for-profit organizations and first nations,” said Rickford. “Our youth will gain valuable experience along with healthy physical activity through this project which is part of their Outdoor Education class.”
SEVEC’s mission is to create, promote and facilitate enriching educational opportunities for youth within Canada for the development of mutual respect and understanding through programs of exploration in language, culture, and community.
