OTTAWA, APRIL 29, 2009 – The All Party Tourism Caucus was launched today. This independent, nonpartisan caucus has taken up the mandate of supporting and promoting Canada’s tourism industry.
Member of Parliament from Kenora, Greg Rickford, leads his colleagues in this initiative as Chair of the caucus. “I believe that we have a great opportunity to allow this fine group of parliamentarians to maximize the regional possibilities in promoting tourism across Canada,” said Rickford. “With the Olympics just ahead of us, the world will be introduced to Canada’s breathtaking scenery and spectacular attractions, and we want to ensure that the Tourism sector benefits from this event”.
The Tourism industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. It expands and diversifies the economy in every region. In the riding of Kenora, tourism has been identified as a key strategy for economic diversification. “Tourism is an important driver of Canada’s economic health, and we must see to it that we find every opportunity to promote Canada and grow this sector.”
The Tourism Caucus will work with stakeholders in the sector and seek ways to promote tourism in all regions across Canada.
“While this is a challenging time economically, it is also an exciting time for Tourism and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the coming months,” said Rickford.
