Thirteen Conservative Members of Parliament, including two Federal Ministers, played against 20 local residents, city councilors and business people on November 14th in Leduc, AB. The Hockey Showdown raised more than $50,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Leduc and District.

Greg Rickford, MP-Kenora, was happy to contribute to this event in James Rajotte’s riding. Rajotte, the Chair of the Finance Committee, visited Kenora this past August with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, conducting 2010 pre-budget consultations with local business representatives. He and Rickford have developed a strong friendship.

Playing forward Rickford had 3 assists, including one that set up Minister Jim Prentice for a nice goal. Although they lost the game, 9 to 5, they all had a great time and were thrilled to be a part of fundraising a significant amount for a terrific cause.

Greg has been pleased to participate and attend hockey games as the season gets underway. Greg is an avid sports enthusiast; he enjoys showcasing sports, many of which have received funding under the Recreational Infrastructure in Canada Program. The great Kenora riding has received much publicity for the over $6 million received for these projects including community and recreation centres, softball diamonds, skateboard parks, pow wow grounds and many more. “It’s been exciting to see many of these recreation projects underway, and in the case of Kenora’s recreation centre nearly complete,” said Rickford.
