KENORA, ON – Greg Rickford, Kenora-MP, is encouraging constituents, friends, family and colleagues across the country to vote for KENORA as a wildcard city on the new Canadian version of Monopoly.
Hasbro, the game’s manufacturer, is currently asking "Which Canadian cities are your favourite?" They are launching a nation-wide vote to find our nation's 22 favourite cities that will be included on the new MONOPOLY Canada game board! As well, there is an opportunity to name 2 cities as wildcards, and that is where we are looking to get KENORA on the game board.
MONOPOLY fans can visit Rickford’s site at gregrickford.ca, click on the picture of the monopoly game to link to the site and using the Nominate own city link vote for KENORA.
Each email address can vote once per day for the wildcard cities until Feb. 7th. Beginning on Feb. 8th the top 10 nominated wildcard cities will be open for voting – the cities that receive the top two votes will then appear on the board.
The wildcard vote will take place from February 8th until February 21st. There is also a tell a friend link on the site where you can forward emails to friends and family and encourage them to vote – ensure you add to the automatic text that comes up asking them to Nominate KENORA as Wildcard city.
“Kenora’s community spirit is amazing! Just a few weeks ago we saw it really shine through during the Olympic Torch Relay event,” said an excited Rickford. “I want to encourage everyone to go to my website gregrickford.ca and click on the picture of the monopoly board game and vote daily. Spread the word to family and friends to do the same.”
You can also cast votes for your favourite larger Canadian cities. 65 great Canadian cities have been pre-selected for the top 20 city vote and Canadians are invited to cast their ballots for 3 of these great cities each day of the vote, which will be open until February 7, 2010. The city that receives the most votes will be placed on the highest rent property traditionally held by Boardwalk.
"MONOPOLY is the world's most popular branded board game and it transcends cultural barriers," said Michelle Sinclair, Brand Manager for MONOPOLY. "More than 750 million people have played the game since it was first introduced 75 years ago and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down."
"The final result of the MONOPOLY CANADA Edition will be surprising and only time will tell how the vote will turn out. We hope that fans will vote early and often for their favourite Canadian city" added Michelle.
The cities voted onto the final game board will be announced in June 2010. The new MONOPOLY Canada Edition will be available in stores in summer 2010.
