FORT FRANCES, ON - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament (Kenora), today announced funding for Fort Frances’ Tour de Fort Canadian Concert Series which will run from April 2010 until March 2011.
“The 19th annual Tour de Fort Concert Series will provide residents and tourists in Fort Frances and the Rainy River District with quality, Canadian-focused professional entertainment,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to invest in the upcoming season, which will feature performances by six emerging and established artists from across Canada and includes both music and theatre arts.”
As a hub for the Rainy River District, the historic town of Fort Frances plays an important role in the promotion of the community’s vibrant cultural landscape. For nearly two decades, the Tour de Fort Canadian concert series has provided a stage for emerging and established Canadian artists as well as a showcase for local music and theatre.
This year, the exciting program will bring innovative artists like musician “Paramedic” to northern Ontario. These presentations, as well as Tour de Fort’s partnership with local schools, are essential ways of connecting with young people in our communities.
“The Tour de Fort series enhances cultural life in Fort Frances and across northwestern Ontario,” said Mr. Rickford. “Our government is committed to the cultural and economic growth of our communities. We recognize the dedicated work of not-for-profit organizations such as Tour de Fort and thank the volunteers for their service. They have made a tremendous contribution enriching arts and culture in northern Ontario.” Mr. Rickford continues to champion important funding for all areas of northwestern Ontario.
“I’m extremely pleased and proud the federal government is supporting us and the performing arts in our community,” said Ken Avis, Vice President and Programmer of the Tour de Fort Canadian Concert Series. “This continued support and funding helps us present high-quality Canadian artists each year in Fort Frances, which enhances both our community culture and the performing arts in the Rainy River District.”
The Government of Canada has provided $9,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (formerly Arts Presentation Canada program) of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada’s culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
