Ottawa, Ontario - Today Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament for the Kenora riding, was pleased to announce an additional $5 million investment to the Two Feathers Project on behalf of Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. This investment brings the total Federal Government contribution to more than $13 million, setting the project and its partners on course to bring real economic development to Northwestern Ontario.
"For about a year now, I have been working with Two Feathers and the First Nations Communities of Wabigoon, Eagle Lake and Pikangikum, alongside my Federal colleagues, to get to this point," said Rickford. "Two Feathers asked for $10.5 million towards this project and after all is said and done, the Federal Government will have exceeded that request by more than $3 million dollars. This really is a great day for northwestern Ontario."
In the 2009 Economic Action Plan, Prime Minister Stephen Harper pointed to the Two Feathers Project as a model for real economic development in Northern Ontario. Two Feathers will export wood products overseas and will create hundreds of jobs in Dryden, Red Lake and the communities of Wabigoon, Pikangikum and Eagle Lake First Nations.
